Why We Only Make What's Ordered?
Why We Only Make What's Ordered: The Truth About Made-to-Order Watches
How made-to-order saves you AU$1,200 and why waiting 12–15 weeks is worth it.
We don't keep inventory.
Every Bausele watch is made after you order it. You reserve yours during our drop window. We craft it. 12–15 weeks after the window closes, it arrives.
No warehouse stock. No discounts. No guessing.
This isn't how most watch brands work. And that's the point.
The Traditional Watch Industry Is Broken
Here's how most brands operate:
- Guess demand — Manufacture 1,000 watches hoping they sell
- Distribute to retailers — Watches sit in stores for months
- Mark up 2–3x — Retailers take 50% margin
- Discount unsold stock — "40% off! Clearance!"
The cost? You pay for their guessing, their storage, their markdowns, and their middlemen.
The Elemental retails for AU$1,200 (US$750). In traditional retail, the same watch would cost AU$2,400 at the very least because retailers take a 50% margin.
You'd pay double for the exact same product.
How Made-to-Order Actually Works
Our model is simple:
- Drop window opens — Reserve your watch (Elemental Ocean, Sydney Diver, etc.)
- Window closes — We know exactly how many to make
- We craft your watch — 12–15 weeks of assembly, testing, finishing
- Direct to you — No middlemen, no markup
What Happens During Those 12–15 Weeks:
Weeks 1-4: Sourcing & prep
- Pull your Australian element (Manly sand, Kiama black sand, Bathurst rubber,...)
- Order Swiss movement
- Prep case, dial, hands, strap
Weeks 5-10: Assembly & testing
- Movement regulated and tested
- Crown chamber sealed with Australian element
- Water resistance tested to 200M
- Quality control check
Weeks 11-15: Finishing & shipping
- Final regulation
- Packaging
- Shipped direct to your door
This isn't an assembly line. It's craft.

The Trade-Off: You Wait. Here's Why That's Good.
12–15 weeks feels long in 2026.
Amazon delivers tomorrow. But good things take time.
If you're buying a watch to wear for 50 years (18,250 days) if not much more...what's 105 days?
Would you rather:
- A watch made specifically for you at an honest price?
- A watch pulled off a shelf, marked up 2x, discounted because no one wanted it?
What We Don't Do
❌ Overproduce and hope it sells
❌ Discount to move old stock
❌ Run fake "limited-time" sales every week
❌ Sell through retailers who double the price
❌ Pretend scarcity when there isn't any

Why Made-to-Order Is the Future
Studio Underdog. Galo. Ming. Bausele.
The best independent watch brands are moving to made-to-order because the old model is wasteful, expensive, and dishonest.
Made-to-order is:
- Better for the planet (no overproduction)
- Better for customers (honest pricing, no pressure)
- Better for brands (sustainable margins, direct relationships)
It's slower. It requires patience. But it's the right way to build something that lasts.
